Judith Katzen is a proud Miami Beach native, a graduate of Miami Beach High School (Class of 1963), and the University of Miami. She has spent her life dedicated to family, education, and community. A former elementary school teacher who taught grades 1–5, Judith has been married for 60 years to Dr. Barry T. Katzen, a pioneering interventional radiologist and founder of the Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute. Together they have three daughters — Heather, Lesley, Jennifer —  beloved grandchildren.

Judith’s passion for giving back is rooted in her belief that “To have more than we need is a privilege, and with that privilege comes responsibility.” After first learning about JAFCO from her daughter Heather, Judith was deeply moved by the organization’s mission and immediately became involved. She has been a dedicated member of the Miami Luncheon Committee for many years and has served as a committed table sponsor, inspiring others to join her in supporting JAFCO’s children. Some of her most meaningful moments have been hearing JAFCO alumni speak about how the organization changed their lives — that experience always reaffirms her ongoing commitment.

Since 2018 Judith and Barry have been proud members of the JAFCO Godparent Circle and in 2024 made a commitment to the Forever Godparent Endowment, a gift ensuring support of the children of JAFCO forever. As a result of their ongoing philanthropy, the Katzens will become members of the JAFCO Founders Circle this year.

Beyond JAFCO, Judith has devoted her time and leadership to numerous community organizations, including Baptist Health South Florida, The Melissa Institute for Prevention of Violence, The Miami Beach High School Alumni Association, Greater Miami Jewish Federation, The JCS Kosher Food Bank and The Miami Jewish Film Festival. She and her husband have also established an endowment for research at the Society of Interventional Radiology.

Judith’s life is enriched by her love of travel, boating, art museums, Mah Jongg and Canasta, and by the joy she finds in spending time with family and friends.

Today, we are proud to recognize Judith Katzen as our Woman of Honor — for her generosity, her leadership, and the love she so selflessly shares with our community.
