Honoring Gila & Allen Chelminsky

“We know that any success that we have comes from G-d and thus Hashem is our partner in anything we do.”

Allen and Gila Chelminsky are a deeply spiritual couple, in fact it was their devotion to Judaism that brought them to JAFCO. Many years ago when Allen retired as president of his synagogue, he felt a void in his life and asked the advice of his Rabbi. The Rabbi told him about JAFCO and that very day he visited the Village campus, took a tour, and met with CEO Sarah Franco. “I fell in love with JAFCO at first sight,” Allen said. “Not only did I want to give my money to such a worthy charity, I also wanted to give my time.”

Gila and Allen have been generous supporters of JAFCO since 2006. They established the
Chelminsky Family Hebrew School Fund to enrich the lives of the children of JAFCO by exposing them to the beauty of Judaism. Allen has served on the JAFCO Board of Trustees since 2007, and Gila and Allen are members of the Founders Circle, Silver Heart Society, Godparent Circle and have served as JAFCO Gala Chairs.

Allen was born and raised in Toronto and moved to Florida upon college graduation. For the past 30 years, he has enjoyed a successful career in real estate acquisitions and management. Gila was born in Israel and grew up in New York, then moved to Florida. The Chelminskys enjoy travelling and spending time with family. They are proud, loving parents of five daughters: Leah (22), Sarah (19), Eva (16) and 13-year-old twins Leora and Rebecca. In June, Gila and Allen celebrated their first family wedding of Leah to Eliott Koskas.

Recently the Chelminskys made a generous capital gift, naming a Group Home at the JAFCO
Children’s Village in honor of their beautiful family: The Chelminsky Home, for the blessing and
success of all their children.

Aside from their own family, the most meaningful experience for the Chelminskys as longtime
members of the JAFCO family, is watching the children grow into productive young adults with
bright futures. JAFCO is honored and grateful to recognize Gila and Allen for their compassionate hearts and generosity on behalf of all the children.
